Thursday 11/1: SLC DAY!

Learning Objective:

Starter: Attack scene from the film Pearl Harbor
1. How are the Japanese portrayed in this clip and how are the Americans portrayed?


Agenda:

1    1.  Read the transcript of FDR’s "Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation" then watch the video and respond to the questions below.

a.     What would it be like if this happened today? Do you see any comparisons between PH and 9/11?  How would you feel if you encountered a Japanese American on the street the day after PH?  How would you feel if YOU were a Japanese American? How are your fears similar/different?

b.     What does FDR’s speech mean?  Is War a part of American Identity?  What are the causes and effects of War Hysteria?

2.  Listen to "Kenji" by Fort Minor and compare the perspectives between Pearl Harbor clip and FDR's speech 

3.  Read Preface to Stone’s chapter from War and Liberty and discuss

4. Watch "Remembering Manzanar"  + complete discussion questions

5. Spicy Unicorns- discuss ch. 1 questions

6. Time to Read SFC
